In ARTS this term we have been learning to:do a silent movie
Select and use techniques and relevant technologies to develop drama practice.
Here is a link to our online modelling book.

  • During this unit of learning we:
  • Described the characteristics of silent performances.
  • Identified different techniques used in silent performances.
  • Used these techniques in a variety of different practice situations.
  • Worked in a small group to put together our own silent performance.

The most challenging part of this unit of learning was when we have to run around and not being able to talk. because that was i thought was hard because i like talking.

The two things that I enjoyed the most were:

The story that my group told silently was how I have a ball than Tr'e is chasing me cause he wants it and than I fall over and he gets it and takes it and starts kicking and slapping me

Overall I think my group worked OK because some weeks we didn't focus and just mucked around because it was boring some weeks and some weeks were good

current events

WALT: I can successfully research a current event.
Here is a link to our online modelling book for this unit of learning.

The National Standard that I have been aiming for during this unit of learning is:

  •  Year7/8: I can use appropriate skills and technologies to find and use a range of texts for specific purposes.

Each week we have read a short text about a current event/ topic. We then formed questions based on what we had read.  After this we researched the answers to our questions and finally we gave our opinions on what we had found out.

Here is some evidence of my learning.

My Next Step is to continue to  apply the reading and  research skills that I have learned in a variety of other areas.

Careers Education C.V. Writing

In CAREERS EDUCATION we have been learning to write a skills based Curriculum Vitae.

A skills based C.V. focuses more on the skills that we have,  rather than our work history.

Here is a link to our online Modelling Book that shows the process we have followed.

Three things that I have learned about writing a Curriculum Vitae are:

  1. I learnt that detailed and neat

  1. I learnt u need to be particular with your spaces, capital letters and punctuation

  1. I learnt that you need to have the write size text for what you are writing

my book review

                                         Tom Gates

i liked Tom Gates because. i have read some of the others and how it talks about toms life . its a good book because i like these types off book .I really like the cover to its got some cool drawing and images.  I also like the way the book is layed out. and how all of the books have his life. but they put parts of the story in different books. the main characters are tom gates his mum and dad and  friends. one bit of his life. I liked was  when he comes home and toms dad already know about his detention. its funny because he didn't even get to tell his dad why he got detention before he even walked in the door

Blog Post Title: Current Events Term 1

Current Events Term 1

In Current Events I covered these topics:
  • The design of the Halswell Skate Park and I made a submission to the council.
  • Donald Trump’s Refugee Plan
  • Christchurch Earth Memorial
  • The new Ngā Puna Wai Sports Facility
  • The Red Zone and Avon River Regeneration Plan with a submission to the council.

My favourite topic was...The design of the Halswell Skate Park and I made a submission to the council.because…i recon it would be cool having a skate park close to me

Here is a link to my learning on the Red Zone and Avon River Regeneration Plan.

The Reading National Standards I have achieved are (delete the ones that are not relevant)Year 7 and 8
    • Identifying and resolving issues that come from competing information in texts
gathering, evaluating, and synthesizing information across a small range of texts
    • I can use appropriate skills and technologies to find and use a range of texts for specific purposes.

Evaluate statements made by others about the findings of statistical investigations and probability activities.

In the newspaper article, ‘Which Social Media for Teens?’, it was reported that young people are using different forms of social media than they did a few years ago.
Read the article below and comment on whether the reporter’s statements are consistent with the survey data.
Which Social Media for Teens?
It looks like Facebook is no longer cool amongst the teens of today.  Instagram and Twitter have taken over the most popular social networks among American children and these kids are ditching Facebook.
Research has shown that today’s teens are no longer using Facebook. Rather, they are using Instagram and Twitter. There has been a steady decline in the usage of Facebook, with all other social networks increasing in popularity. Surveys of 15,000 social network users between the ages of 13 and 19 over the past three years, gave the following results:

writting

In writing I have been learning to:
  • use all basic punctuation independently
  • attempt more complex punctuation (eg semicolons, colons, parentheses)

I have been especially focussing on using parentheses and commas. I have highlighted these in green where I have used them as well as other punctuation that I changed because it was used incorrectly. Here is a piece of my writing that shows this.

an affective leader:my role is peer mediation. a peer mediator is a person who helps people solve problems and they dont take sides. (im gonna be a good peer mediator by not taking sides and using integrity!)
